Project Description: 5,000 SF Rubberway® RR8000 Multi-Purpose Rubber Flooring
Year Installed: Phase I 2017, Phase II 2018
A Rubberway Multi-Purpose rubber surface was installed on the balconies and hallways of student residence buildings at Northern Arizona University.
Rubberway's rubber flooring system for balconies was selected to replace concrete paving stones which would separate due to freeze and thaw during cold winter months resulting in gaps and trip hazards.
The University was looking for a safe, non-slip surface that would provide sound dampening to make the residences more comfortable for students. The Rubberway Multi-Purpose RR8000 system was selected due to its hard surface structure and its ability to expand and contract without separation or warping. Also, the surface of the balconies and hallways was unleveled, but since Rubberway is poured in place, this system was able to be customized and leveled to the surface as needed, making it the perfect fit.
Rubberway Multi-Purpose RR8000 uses a special clear bonding agent which creates a hard, firm surface and provides UV stabilization to prevent a change in color over time. For this project, a 1.5" thick layer of rubber was installed over concrete with a waterproofing membrane.
