Rubberway® was developed with sustainability in mind. Our systems are designed to maximize the use of recycled and regional materials and to minimize impacts on the environment. Each year, Rubberway utilizes recycled rubber from tens of thousands of post-consumer tires, diverting them from landfills, re-using them for a second life, and reducing the need for virgin materials.
We work closely with our manufacturing partners to ensure the materials that make up our systems are as non-toxic as possible and meet the requirements of the state of California which tend to be the most stringent in the U.S.
Rubberway has been used in green building projects across the nation to meet stormwater management requirements and to help earn LEED credits.
Rubberway is a low impact development (LID) technology with the following benefits:
Health Product Declarations (HPDs) disclose the potential hazards associated with a building product ingredient. HPDs were created by the Health Product Declaration Collaborative, who established the Open Standard which consists of a defined format and rules for reporting.
Rubberway has completed HPDs that are available for download at the bottom of this page. An HPD can help achieve a LEEDv4 Material Ingredient Reporting credit.
Rubberway's HPDs can be downloaded here:
Use permanently installed building products that meet at least one responsible extraction criteria:
Most Rubberway single layer systems are made of 100% recycled tire rubber. Rubberway dual layer systems utilize 66-100% recycled tire rubber.
Use at least 20 different permanently installed products sourced from at least five different manufacturers that use any of these programs to demonstrate the chemical inventory of the product to at least 0.1% (1000 ppm):
Rubberway has published publicly available HPDs.
For all occupied spaces, meet the requirements, as applicable, for HVAC background noise, sound isolation, reverberation time, and sound reinforcement and masking.
Rubberway systems are made of rubber which has sound dampening properties.
Purchase at least 50 percent, by cost, of the total maintenance and renovation materials that meet at least one of these criteria:
Most Rubberway single layer systems are made of 100% recycled tire rubber. Rubberway dual layer systems utilize 66-100% recycled tire rubber.
Use products that meet one or more of the following criteria (0.5 points each). At least 90 percent of each compliant building component, by weight or volume, must meet one of the following requirements. A single component that meets more than one criterion does not earn additional credit.
Most Rubberway single layer systems are made of 100% recycled tire rubber. Rubberway dual layer systems utilize 66-100% recycled tire rubber.
